The CAS-credentialed actuary of the future needs a combination of three broad skillsets:
- P/C insurance and risk management domain knowledge, which has been the focus of the CAS for 100+ years.
- Problem solving, which has been a more recent focus with the addition of higher cognitive-level questions to our examinations.
- Analytics, which has also been a more recent focus with the advent of CAS Modern Actuarial Statistics Exams I and II, including new content outlines published late last year.
But are we doing enough? And are we doing it fast enough?
We invite you to share your thoughts with the CAS admissions leadership team on how well the CAS is preparing the actuary of the future, specifically as it relates to data and technology. The CAS Admissions Transformation Plan (ATP), which launched in 2020, outlines changes underway in how we validate individuals as qualified to work as credentialed actuaries, both in content and structure. Changes include:
- Adopting new exam design and development
- Incorporating new exam features
- Updated content outlines (syllabi)
The Town Hall will begin with a brief overview of the changes announced so far as part of the ATP, and what lies just over the horizon. We will then devote time to hearing from you – whether you are a New Associate or Seasoned Actuary – what is your view on the transformation underway in our credentialing pathway? What is important to you in terms of skill sets as you look for new actuarial hires? Is our pipeline of actuarial candidates at risk as we compete for the best and brightest with other professions and if so, how do we remain competitive?
We plan to explore these questions and more during our interactive Town Hall.
Town Hall Panelists:
Roosevelt Mosley, CAS President, Moderator
Frank Chang, CAS President-Elect
William Wilder, CAS VP-Admissions
John Kleine, CAS Chief Growth and Product Officer
Maggie Lyons, CAS Director of Certification Development
